If you want to work in the UK but are not a holder of an EU Passport there are a number of work permits and visas available to those travelling from outside the EU

Working Holiday
The working holiday visa entitles you (the "holidaymaker") to up to 2 years working within the UK providing you take a holiday during your stay.
Ancestral Visa
This visa is available to you if you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent born in the UK or Islands. You will be allowed to stay in the UK for up to 4 years.
Standard Work Permit
An application for this work permit must be made by an employer based in the UK where a contract of employment already exists. It is not possible to locum on this type of permit.
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
This programme is designed to allow highly skilled workers to migrate to the UK to seek employment opportunities. Initially you can stay for 24 months, after this time you must apply to stay longer and may be granted a further 3 years.
